Admin Rock Roundup Aug 23,2012

Back with Admin_Rock’s weekly look at what’s hot, and what’s cool, (at least in his world.)

Photobucket

Hey folks, normally this happens on Monday, but I was busy earlier this week, better late than never.

FILM

The Bond marathon stalled out at Octopussy. God Damn that was a terrible movie. I’ll rally and move through the rest, but I needed to get my head clear. Watched The Bourne Identity again. Now THAT’S a movie. It’s pretty much where the Bond films are headed in the modern era, and I’d question the logic of a “modern Bond”. Seems unnecessary.

Also went to Raiders at the drive in with the family. There was much more whinging and cryingin the film than I remember.

MUSIC

Reading more about the Beach Boys prompted a few nights of falling asleep to Pet Sounds. That there is a great album. Also been listening to the Decemberist’s “We All Raise Our Voices To The Air”. I saw them perform at the Calgary Folk Fest a few years back. Damn good show. I have to be in the mood for them, but when I am, it’s a good thing.

TV

Started watching “Alphas”, on recommendation from the web. First episode was decent, will reserve comment until I’ve seen more. Watched most of the “Episodes” run. Matt LeBlanc is really damn good in this, and it’s a great show, an overlooked gem. Breaking Bad is still killing it on a weekly basis, and I’m pleased the The Newsroom is showing signs of raising itself above a 6/10 level.

BOOKS

Found a book of anecdotes and info about Beach Boys tunes, and enjoyed reading through that. Also finished “Why We Get Fat” (Spoiler: it’s STILL carbs), and started Albert Brooks’s 2030. On the “Fat” front, I could write days worth of blogs on the subject now, and fight the urge to scream at people around me who whine about their weight while scarfing down “low-fat” foods and sandwiches.

COMICS

Scott Snyder’s “Batman” is still consistently excellent, and anyone who claims to love the Bat should be reading it. Thinking about re-reading “Dark knight Returns” yet again.

Also, The Ozymandias mini series is excellent. Beautiful to look at an a fun read. Buy it.

LEGO

Finished a couple of art pieces for a local show, and now need to whip together a couple of scottish highland farms for a show at the end of the month. Have been considering building some kind of Italian Piazza, and also making tons of Anicent Roman buildings.

Till next week, share your likes and dislikes, recommend things and such.
