Leslie Nielsen: The Correctness Obit
The Correctness is sad to inform you that comedy great Leslie Nielsen passed away last night. He was 28 years old.
Nielsen was born and raised in Canada, though this didn’t seem to adversely affect his career. His father worked for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and thus, Nielsen spent a lot of time moving around, town to town, up and down the dial. And while you and he were never meant to be, baby, think of him once in a while.
After figuring out that actors get a lot more chicks than Mounties, Nielsen moved to the United States and appeared in a number of films, including Forbidden Planet and The Poseidon Adventure. He also auditioned for the role of Messala in Ben Hur, a role which admin_rock has taken on twice in the last 20 years. While it would be overstating the point to call _rock’s performance brilliant, it should be noted that he’s pretty bad ass, and tends to make the ladies shift around in their seats. Nielsen was unavailable for comment on this matter.
Turning to comedy, Nielsen became famous for appearing a movie that was filled with jokes about airplanes and pilots of airplanes, the plot of which revolved around chaos onboard an airplane. I think it was called “Flying” or something like that. Regardless, it started a whole new phase of his career, one we’ll call the “new phase”. After that it was all Naked Gun movies and tripping over things for Nielsen. he was good at this, and continued to make such films, which also starred a young OJ Simpson, who was famous for playing football, and later became known for not being guilty of things in the eyes of the law.
Nielsen was unsatisfied with his career, and turned increasingly to golf to chase away the demons. He planned a film about a wealthy country club owner and a crass millionaire who wants to ruin everything. He wanted to call it “Caddyshack”, and stopped only when he discovered that the film had already been made. During a spell where he forgot that he wasn’t Ernest Hemmingway, he took up bullfighting and Marlin fishing.
We at The Correctness are sad to see Nielsen pass, and thank him for many hours of laughs and snickers. Not the chocolate bars, mind you, but we do like those. They have the peanuts and whatnot, and tend to fill you up more than a lot of other chocolate bars. We don’t really care for the peanut butter version though. Not sure why they keep doing that, making a peanut butter version of things. They’re almost never as good as the original. Except Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, which are better than the original Reese’s Wheat Cups.
