Admin Rock Roundup – Oct 9, 2012
Back with Admin_Rock’s weekly look at what’s hot, and what’s cool, (at least in his world.)
Summer is over, new Television is with us, and the crappy Movie season begins.
FILM
Haven’t been to much in the theatre, apart from taking AR jr to a “Wimpy Kid” movie. Also rewatched “The Fellowship of the Ring” with him. He’s 9, he doesn’t dig scary things. So I get to tell him everything that’s about to happen. It’s kind of liberating.
MUSIC
I’m digging the new Bond Theme “Skyfall”, from Adele. It’s got that old style Orchestration, and reminds me of the Shirley Bassey numbers. Hopefully the film measures up.
TV
Lots of TV on the go. Working on a big project, so many hours in front of the TV. Revisited “Journeyman”, and really liked it again. Sad it only lasted one season, it was an interesting premise and handled it’s characters well.
Might have, after 2 years, reached a realization that no matter how well acted “Treme” is, and no matter how good the music is, that that there needs to be some kind of plot progression. It’s getting… dare I say it…. boring.
Dexter started off with a bang this season, great first episode. Second episode was as bad as the first was good. You know who wants to watch a show about a serial killer in a 12 step program and tries to NOT kill bad guys? Nobody, that’s who.
Doctor Who came and went, and bored the crap out of me. Don’t get me wrong, I love the series, but this season is a huge mess. Bad, bad, bad. A chance for redemption exists at Christmas, and a lack of Amy Pond will almost certainly help.
BOOKS
Just started “Cloud Atlas”. No comment yet, other than “okay, hopefully you’re going somewhere with all of this”.
COMICS
Picked up Terry Moore’s “Echo”. I was delighted, but confused. The female characters had thoughts and actions unrelated to chest size, and people had emotions and stuff.
See the AvX article soon to be posted for thought on that.
LEGO
Big commission with a short deadline came in, so I’ve been working like crazy to finish that up.
Till next week, share your likes and dislikes, recommend things and such.
