The Way Too Specific Movie Awards
Since before the days of the Intertubes, mankind has been assembling, sorting, and placing things in top 10, or 7, or 3 lists. We at The Correctness applaud these efforts, but feel that sometimes they can be too general. Like say “Top 10 Science Fiction Movies”. Easy enough, you have your 6 favorites, and can throw a few more in to make up the difference.
But today, we embark on a quest to award films for VERY specific things. To wit: The First Correctness Way Too Specific Movie Awards. The Categories must be strictly defined, but still allow for a number of films to be considered. “Best Keanu Reeves movie where he plays a surfing cop” would be TOO specific. But say, “Best Movie featuring a bomb on a moving vehicle”, or “Best Movie taking place mostly inside a computer” would be okay.
On with it!
(Today, admin_rock has provided categories, Tbinns and RobbieRobTown have been invited to play along.)
BEST SCENE INVOLVING A BOMB ON A MOVING VEHICLE
TBinns: That time I watched Transformers Revenge of a Fallen on the Airplane. I thought bombs weren’t allowed on Airplanes dammit.
admin_rock: Speed is a obvious one, but I was recently watching The Hunt For Red October (which holds up REALLY well), and the scene with Alec Baldwin hunting down the cook in the engine room is pretty great.
RobbieRobTown: Sonny Bono, Airplane 2 “Nobody has to know about your little problem…”. In fact, that whole film is about a bomb on a moving vehicle.
BEST SCENE FEATURING A SURPRISE CAMEO BY A FAMOUS PERSON
Tbinns: Bill Murray, Zombieland, although Tom Jones at the end of Mars Attacks was pretty funny.
admin_rock: Bill Murray is the current darling of the category, but my money is still on Bob “The Price is Wrong” Barker from Happy Gilmour.
RobbieRobTown: Cate Blanchett covered up beyond recognition in Hot Fuzz. A monumental and hilarious waste of Cate Blanchett.
BEST SCENE INVOLVING A DUCK
Tbinns: The weighing scene from Monty Python and the Holy Grail. She weighed the same as a duck. She deserved what she got.
admin_rock: Clearly this one goes to one Charlie Conway (who was played by Joshua Jackson, btw) for the “will he or won’t he” finale of The Mighty Ducks.
RobbieRobTown: Not technically a film, but the scene in which Daffy Duck as Robin hood keeps swinging into trees- You know “Yoiks, and away!”(wham!).
BEST SCENE WITH A GUY IN A GORILLA SUIT
TBinns: Trading Places, because nothing says comedy like the jailhouse gorilla rape of the principal from Breakfast Club.
admin_rock: The Pink Panther had a great chase scene with multiple gorillas, but I’m going with Trading Places, a movie I’ve seen far too many times, and is on my “will stop if flipping through channels” list.
RobbieRobTown: Any scene from Gorillas in the Mist. Hilarious. Runner up: The original Planet of the Apes “Get your stinking paws off me”.
BEST SCENE THAT TAKES PLACE IN A MOVIE THEATRE
Tbinns: First one that comes to mind is the Popcorn scene in Diner, so let’s go with that.
admin_rock: Scream 2 had a very interesting movie theatre scene, but was a lousy film, and of course Donnie Darko had a great scene in a theatre, but I think I’d give it to Inglorious Basterds for the Nazi burning scene (also the only QT film i’d recommend apart from Pulp Fiction. Man, he really grew up for this one.)
RobbieRobTown: Gremlins 2, when the gremlins stop the movie, and Hulk Hogan comes out of the audience to save the show. Also: Best ridiculous cameo by Christopher Lee, I may change my answer above.
BEST MOVIE WITH PUPPETS AND DAVID BOWIE AND JENNIFER CONNOLLY WHO HAS JUST ENOUGH BABY FAT STILL LEFT ON HER FACE TO MAKE YOU FEEL GUILTY ABOUT ALL THOSE THOUGHTS YOU ARE HAVING
Tbinns: You know what? I am going to go with Labyrinth here
admin_rock: The Pink Panther had a great scene with Puppets and David Bowie and Jennifer Connolly , but I’m going with Labyrinth, as it was more baby fatty.
RobbieRobTown: I was like, 8 years old when Labyrinth came out, so Jennifer Connolly was a seductive older woman. I read all about it in Muppet magazine. Anyway, my favourite scene with those two is from the youtube mash up I saw of A Beautiful Mind and The Prestige. (Oooh, might change my cameo answer again.)
